Join us this week to promote the importance of cervical screening. Did you know that 1 in 3 women and people with a cervix don’t attend their cervical screening invite? However, cervical cancer prevention doesn’t stop at screening.

Thousands of women and people with a cervix every year are told they have cervical cell changes after their screening, and many more are given an HPV diagnosis. This can mean more tests and treatments.

The liver is a fascinating organ and its importance is often underrated. It’s an amazing multi-tasker and has over 500 vital jobs to do to keep you alive. It’s just as important as other organs like your heart and lungs, but they tend to steal most of the limelight.

In the UK, liver disease is on the rise. The three major preventable causes are drinking alcohol, obesity and viral hepatitis.

When it’s damaged, the liver can repair itself, but only up to a point. Sadly, people with liver disease often don’t have any symptoms until the disease has progressed and it’s far too late for treatment. That’s why it’s so important to know the risk factors and to keep your liver happy and healthy for life – before long-lasting damage can occur. GHR & Eaglebridge Primary Care Network: Provision of our services outside the normal practice hours.

As you may be aware NHS England (who commission our practices services) have set out a requirement that practices work together to ensure that patients are able to access services outside our normal hours of work (8.00am to 6.30pm Monday to Friday).

GHR and Eaglebridge Primary Care Networks cover the following practices:

Grosvenor Medical Centre

Hungerford Medical Centre

Rope Green Medical Centre

Millcroft Medical Centre

Earnswood Medical Centre

GHR and Eaglebridge PCNs have produced a plan based on services being provided from the individual practices and from a local practice-based Hub on Friday and Saturday.

This way of working is not new to us, we have been providing so called Extended Access services for the last five years, including the ability for our patients to access services locally on Saturdays.

The times we provide extended access services from our practice bases have been determined by analysing the preferences of our patients over the last five years, in particular we have been keen to offer services to enable patients who work a distance away from the practice to access services.

Each practice is currently publicising when services are available and we are proposing to add further services to our existing provision, from October 2022.

In addition to the services provided from each practice we are working with our neighbouring practices to offer appointments across the week and on Saturdays. As always, the availability of appointments will be dependent on our capacity, however, please ask the practice receptionist if you would ideally like an appointment outside the normal core hours. It is important to stress that the number of appointments offered outside the normal hours will only be a small proportion of our total appointments, as it is important that we do not undermine our normal level of service particularly given the current high levels of demand and our workforce challenges.

As we have stated we are sure that the time our practices provide services (outside of core hours) reflects the preferences of our patients, but we would be pleased to hear your views so that we can continue to evaluate the best times to offer services.

Happy Hearts – Together we can reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke during Covid-19

Health services, local authorities, charities and other partners across Cheshire and Merseyside are working together to prevent heart attacks and strokes.

The Cheshire and Merseyside Happy Hearts website is aimed at helping you to reduce your risk of stroke and heart attack by giving you lots of information and tips on keeping your heart happy. The website shares local, practical information on:

  • how to live healthily and stay well
  • conditions that increase the chances of having a heart attack or stroke, such as
    • atrial fibrillation
    • high blood pressure
    • high cholesterol
  • how and where you can get your numbers checked
  • how you can help to manage and control these conditions to lower your CVD risk

999 Service Launched in British Sign Language

An official 999 service has now been launched in British Sign Language.

Using a dedicated smartphone APP or the 999 BSL website, callers will be connected to a 999 call handler via a BSL interpreter.

The service can be accessed at 999bsl.co.uk – you can also download the iOS or Android app there.

Have you got the NHS App?

The NHS App is a simple and secure way to access a range of NHS services on your smartphone or tablet. Account verification is done centrally and you don’t need a password from your GP surgery.

You can now use the app to show your Covid vaccination status.

You can use the NHS App to:

  • get advice about coronavirus – get information about coronavirus and find out what to do if you think you have it.
  • order repeat prescriptions – see your available medicines, request a new repeat prescription and choose a pharmacy for your prescriptions to be sent to.
  • book appointments – search for, book and cancel appointments at your GP surgery. See details of your upcoming and past appointments.
  • get health advice – search trusted NHS information and advice on hundreds of conditions and treatments. You can also answer questions to get instant advice and medical help near you.
  • view your health record – securely access your GP health record to see information like your allergies and your current and past medicines. If your GP surgery has given you access to your detailed medical record, you can also see information like test results and details of your consultations.
  • register to be an organ donor – choose to donate some or all your organs and check your registered decision.
  • find out how the NHS uses your data – choose if data from your health records is shared for research and planning.
